A Phone connector is a round jack based connector that is widely used on amateur radio equipment for audio connections as well as other purposes. the name originates from its original use in telephone switchboards in the 19th century.

Characteristics
Mechanical
The phone jack comes in several sizes and configurations, common sizes are 2.5mm (3/32in), 3.5mm (1/8in), and 6.35mm (1/4in) these are available with different numbers of contacts usually from 2 to four.
Common Pinouts
The following pin outs use the Tip Ring Sleeve terminology where the tip is the conductor at the front of the connector and the sleeve is the rearmost conductor. Where one or more rings are used these are listed in order from front to back.

The Phone connector is often used for audio connections in both the 3.5mm and 6.35mm combinations.

Morse Key
The majority of radios use a phone connector for morse key connections this is usually a 6.35mm connector but some radios use the 3.5mm version

Note: some radios use the ring connection for PTT or other purposes, when a 2 pin key is used this causes that connection to be shored to ground when the key is plugged in.
